City of Floyd gets $25,000 CAT grant for pickleball court project

DES MOINES — The Iowa Economic Development Authority Board today approved a $25,000 Community Attractions and Tourism program grant to the City of Floyd to build two new pickleball courts in its existing city park.

CAT Committee chair Melissa Spurgin says, “The courts include fencing and lighting for extended hours of play and public safety, and this amenity will be used to increase local usage of the park and for visitors league play. The City of Floyd will maintain the facility as it is part of a city park. The city plans to attract visiting players from Mason City and Charles City through league play.”

Besides the CAT grant, $40,600 of the project will be done with private fundraising, $10,500 in other grants, $5000 from Floyd County, and $1000 from the City of Floyd. Construction on the project is expected to take place this summer.
