Crystal Lake man sentenced to over five years on federal meth dealing charge

SIOUX CITY — A Hancock County man is headed to prison for more than five years on a federal methamphetamine charge.
42-year-old Jeremy Nedved of Crystal Lake has been sentenced after pleading guilty back in January to conspiracy to distribute meth. The US Attorney for the Northern District of Iowa’s office says Nedved admitted during a sentencing hearing that between February and September of last year that he utilized the “dark web”, a part of the internet that is not visible to search engines and requires the use of an anonymous browser called Tor to be accessed, to purchase meth that he further distributed to others.
Last August, law enforcement had become aware Nedved was using the US mail to receive controlled substances. On August 29th, a mail watch notification was triggered for Nedved’s post office box in Crystal Lake on a package. A search warrant was obtained to intercept the package which netted about a half pound of meth. On September 3rd, a controlled delivery of the meth package took place at the Crystal Lake post office, with Nedved retrieving the package and then being placed under arrest.
Nedved has been sentenced by US District Court Judge Leonard Strand to 63 months in prison to be followed by a three-year term of supervised release. There is no parole in the federal system.
