State baseball scores & schedule — St. Ansgar beats Logan-Magnolia to advance to Class 1A semifinals
CARROLL — St. Ansgar for the second time in school history has advanced to the semifinal round of the state baseball tournament after a 3-1 win over Logan-Magnolia in the Class 1A quarterfinals played last night in Carroll, as you heard on 98.7 KISS Country and 987kisscountry.com. Logan-Magnolia struck first with a run in the top of the first. St. Ansgar tied the game in the bottom of the third as Ryker Hoffman was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. The Saints scored twice in the fourth inning for the final runs of the game, as Joe Clevenger pushed in a run on a groundout with Anthony Schnable singling in the other run of the inning. Jayce Schwiesow picked up the win, striking out ten in six-and-two-thirds innings of work. St. Ansgar improves to 22-7 for the year and will face the 7th-seed East Buchanan, who knocked off second-seed Lynnville-Sully 12-1 in six innings, in Wednesday night’s semifinals at 7 o’clock, which you’ll also hear on 98.7 KISS Country. The Saints are the top remaining seed in the 1A field, as 8th-seed Hillcrest Academy beat top-seed Remsen St. Mary’s 3-1. 4th-seed Martensdale-St. Marys beat 5th-seed Kee 2-0 in the other Class 1A quarterfinal.
