State softball scores & schedule — Newman, West Fork prepare for quarterfinals today
FORT DODGE — Newman faces Clarksville in the Class 1A quarterfinal round of the state softball tournament this evening. The Knights are the #7 seed in the tournament with a 24-5 record. They beat Ankeny Christian 2-0 in the regional final. Clarksville is the #2 seed in the tournament with a record of 28-4. They downed Riceville 11-1 in the regional final round. Sami Kruckenberg leads Newman both at the plate and in the pitcher’s circle. She has a .437 batting average with four home runs and 32 runs batted in. She also has a 22-4 record with a 0.81 ERA, having struck out 281, the second best number of strikeouts in the state in all classes. The winner of tonight’s game will face either third-seed Wapsie Valley or sixth-seed St. Edmond of Fort Dodge in the Class 1A semifinals on Wednesday night.
