State softball scores & schedule — Newman falls in extra innings to Clarksville, West Fork advances with win over Durant
FORT DODGE — 8th-grader Cate Lodge hit a two-out inside the park home run in the bottom of the eighth inning to give Clarksville a 5-4 win over Newman in a Class 1A state quarterfinal at the state softball tournament in Fort Dodge last night, a game you heard on 103.7 The Fox. Both teams scored twice in the first inning, with Clarksville taking a 4-2 lead after the second on a two-run home run by Claire Lodge. The Knights sent seven to the plate in the fifth and scored twice, with the teams then battling into extra innings. Newman falls to 24-6 on the year and will end their season later this afternoon by facing Wapsie Valley in a Class 1A consolation game, a game you’ll hear on 103.7 The Fox starting at 2:30. Wapsie Valley fell 11-2 to St. Edmond in the final 1A quarterfinal of the day.

FORT DODGE — West Fork scored three times in the third and four times in the fourth to beat Durant 7-1 in a Class 2A quarterfinal on Tuesday afternoon, picking up their first state softball tournament win in school history. Preslee Dickman was 2-for-3 with four runs batted in, hitting a two-run home run in the third and then knocking in two more with a double in the fourth. West Fork is 23-6 on the season and will face top-seed Van Meter in today’s semifinals. Van Meter beat West Fork in last year’s quarterfinals 10-0. First pitch is scheduled for 3 o’clock this afternoon.
