Plea change hearing set Charles City man accused of sexual abuse

CHARLES CITY — A Charles City man who was scheduled to stand trial on a sexual abuse charge this week is now planning to plead guilty.
38-year-old Randy McFarland is accused of sexually abusing a child under the age of 10 between July and September 2024 at his residence. McFarland was arrested by Charles City police in November after the child was interviewed by authorities in October at the Allen Child Protection Center in Waterloo as part of their investigation.
McFarland was charged with one count of second-degree sexual abuse, a Class B felony punishable by up to 25 years in prison. He had pleaded not guilty to the charge with his trial scheduled to start on Tuesday, but a plea change hearing has now been set for August 18th in Floyd County District Court.
