Severe storms pass through north-central Iowa overnight, more expected later today

MASON CITY — A line of severe thunderstorms ripped through north-central Iowa overnight, causing damage in several locations.
The National Weather Service had several reports of trees and branches as well as power lines down throughout Cerro Gordo County including Mason City, as well as in and around the rural areas of Osage, Nora Springs, Rockford, Rock Falls, and Plymouth. Alliant Energy at one point overnight had around 2000 customers in north-central Iowa listed as without power.
The Storm Prediction Center has the northwestern portions of our listening area in an “Enhanced” risk of severe weather for later this afternoon into the evening, with a “Moderate” risk for southwestern Minnesota and eastern South Dakota as damaging winds are forecast.
