State Baseball summary — St. Ansgar wins first state baseball title

CARROLL — St. Ansgar won their first state title in baseball on Friday evening as they beat Martensdale-St. Marys 4-1 in the Class 1A championship game played in Carroll, as you heard on 98.7 KISS Country and 987kisscountry.com. Jayce Schwiesow fired a complete game two-hitter, striking out four, to pick up the win for the Saints. St. Ansgar scored twice in the first inning on RBI singles by Ryker Hoffman and Porter Schwiesow. The Saints plated their other two runs in the second on a bases-loaded walk to Gabe Walk, and then Anthony Schnable scored on a wild pitch. The Blue Devils scored a run in the third but couldn’t muster much after that. St. Ansgar finishes their championship season with a record of 24-7 while Martensdale-St. Marys ends their season with a record of 32-6.
