Mason City man charged with possessing meth, stolen construction tools

CLEAR LAKE — A Mason City man has been arrested on charges of having methamphetamine and having stolen construction tools from a local company in his possession.
A criminal complaint says on the morning of July 25th, law enforcement took the report of over $10,000 worth of concrete construction tools from an enclosed cargo trailer parked at the intersection of North Shore Drive and Sunset View Drive in Clear Lake owned by Shane Monson Construction.
After reviewing video footage, a vehicle was identified as being used in the commission of the theft. The vehicle’s owner identified a suspect in the theft. A search warrant was executed at a residence in the 1000 block of 8th Street Southwest in Mason City, with officers finding a majority of the stolen tools piled together in a basement bedroom.
The occupant of the residence, 35-year-old Derek Demory, allegedly admitted to knowing the suspect and taking possession of the tools in exchange for rent owed by the suspect. Law enforcement also say they found more than five grams of meth, a scale, and baggies in the residence.
Demory was charged with possession with the intent to manufacture or deliver meth, a Class B felony, as well as first-degree theft, a Class C felony. He’s being held in the Cerro Gordo County Jail on $35,000 cash-only bond awaiting a court appearance.
Online court records do not show any charges that have been filed against the theft suspect at this time.
