Mason City man pleads guilty to cocaine delivery charge

MASON CITY — A Mason City man has pleaded guilty to a charge of possession with the intent to deliver cocaine.

67-year-old Jose Cabezudo Garcia was arrested on March 13th after a search warrant was executed on his vehicle and residence in December in connection with a cocaine delivery investigation. During the search, three grams of cocaine were found, as well as a digital scale, a handgun, and a small amount of cash.

Law enforcement in a criminal complaint stated that when questioned, Cabezudo Garcia admitted to the cocaine being his, and that he was buying cocaine for $50 a gram and reselling it for $70 a gram.

Cabezudo was scheduled to be tried on the drug charge on August 26th, but he recently entered into a plea agreement with prosecutors, agreeing to plead guilty to one count of possession with the intent to deliver cocaine under 100 grams, a Class C felony.

As part of the plea agreement, it will be recommended that Cabezudo Garcia receive a ten-year suspended prison sentence and be placed on three years probation.

Cabezudo Garcia is scheduled to be sentenced on September 15th in Cerro Gordo County District Court.
