One of two men accused of May robbery in Mason City to plead guilty

One of two Mason City men charged with robbery has entered into a plea agreement with prosecutors.

A criminal complaint states that shortly after 6 o’clock on the evening of May 26th, 35-year-old Harold Stinnett and 31-year-old Jacob Mills allegedly assaulted and took money from a victim in the 200 block of 5th Northeast. The assault resulted in serious injuries to the victim, which consisted of multiple lacerations to the victim’s head and face.

Both men have been charged with first-degree robbery, a Class B felony punishable by up to 25 years in prison.

Both filed not guilty pleas to the charge with their trials scheduled to start on August 12th, but Mills has now entered into a plea deal, pleading guilty to the lesser charge of assault causing bodily injury, a serious misdemeanor.

As part of the plea agreement, it will be recommended that Mills be sentenced to 60 days in jail with credit for time already served and that he pay restitution to the victim.

A sentencing date for Mills at last check of court records had not been scheduled.
