Cerro Gordo County crews continuing to work on storm cleanup

MASON CITY — Cleanup continues throughout Cerro Gordo County after last week’s storms that hit the area.

Cerro Gordo County Engineer Brandon Billings says they went right to work last week preparing two areas that were having big events this past weekend.   “We did a lot of assistance with Rockwell to help them get their city opened up and get ready for this weekend. We helped Conservation in the campground get ready so they could get ready for tractor pulls over the weekend.  We got across South Shore so that the car cruise and everything worked out. There still needs to be a couple of trees that need removal, but nothing unsafe and an obstruction.”

Billings says they are planning to burn a large amount of tree debris in Dugans Pit in the northwest corner of the county, a gravel stockpile area that is away from houses.   “We’re going to have quite the pile out there, but the Ventura Fire Department offered to go out there and burn it. We’re going to work with them to make sure the pile is oriented and done the way that they are comfortable doing the burn. We don’t want them to get overwhelmed by something that’s too big for them, and they’ll have it all spread out so it takes too long to burn. So we’re working with them to make sure we do that correctly.”

Billings says county crews were starting to work today in the Ventura Heights area.

He made his comments during today’s meeting of the Cerro Gordo County Board of Supervisors.
