Clear Lake City Council to discuss restarting the Police Department’s K-9 program

CLEAR LAKE — The Clear Lake City Council tonight is being asked to take action to restart the Police Department’s K-9 program.
In a memo to the council, City Administrator Steve Diers says there was money allocated to restart the program placed in the Fiscal Year 2026 budget. The funds will cover the training and purchase agreement for a dual-purpose K-9 dog from Tree Town Kennels in Forest City for about $17,000. Diers says Cerro Gordo County among others have indicated a willingness to help fund the program.
The council is also being asked to proceed with assigning Officer Blaine Pavelka as the handler for the K-9 dog.
The Clear Lake City Council meets tonight at City Hall at 5:30.
