Mason City woman pleads not guilty to ongoing retail thefts

MASON CITY — A Mason City woman charged with committing multiple thefts from retail stores has pleaded not guilty.

19-year-old Sarina Burgin was charged on June 30th with using a stolen credit card six times on May 20th and 21st to purchase merchandise totaling $1278. Burgin was arrested on July 12th and charged with: ongoing criminal conduct, a Class B felony; credit card fraud; possession of methamphetamine first offense; possession of cannabidiol first offense; interference with official acts; and possession of drug paraphernalia.

She had been charged in mid-June with ongoing criminal conduct after police said she committed thefts on May 31st, June 7th and June 16th, each involving the concealment and unlawful removal of merchandise without payment. Magistrate Judge William Morrison a day later reviewed the complaint and found there was not probable cause to support the charge and dismissed the case without prejudice and ordered Burgin to be released.

Burgin was due in court for her arraignment hearing on Monday, but late last week she filed a written plea of not guilty to the charges.

Her trial is scheduled to start on September 30th.
