One of two Mason City man originally accused of robbery sentenced, other pleads guilty

MASON CITY — It’s 60 days in jail for one of two Mason City men charged with robbery in May.
A criminal complaint states that shortly after 6 o’clock on the evening of May 26th, 35-year-old Harold Stinnett and 31-year-old Jacob Mills allegedly assaulted and took money from a victim in the 200 block of 5th Northeast. The assault resulted in serious injuries to the victim, which consisted of multiple lacerations to the victim’s head and face.
Both men were charged with first-degree robbery, a Class B felony punishable by up to 25 years in prison. Both had originally filed not guilty pleas to the charge, but Mills late last month entered into a plea deal with prosecutors, and Stinnett now has also entered into a plea deal, with both pleading guilty to the lesser charge of assault causing bodily injury, a serious misdemeanor.
As part of the plea agreement with Mills, prosecutors recommended that he be sentenced to 60 days in jail with credit for any time already served and that he pay restitution to the victim. District Judge Blake Norman agreed with that recommendation when sentencing Mills late last week.
A similar recommendation has been given for Stinnett when he’s sentenced on August 18th.
