Hampton man charged with sexual abuse pleads guilty to lesser charge

HAMPTON — A Hampton man originally charged with sexual abuse has now pleaded guilty to a lesser charge.

43-year-old Lucino Castillo was charged last October with third-degree sexual abuse. A criminal complaint says Hampton police received a report on October 5th of a sexual assault that had taken place, with a juvenile victim reporting that she was assaulted by a known male. The complaint says Castillo admitted to sexually assaulting the victim.

Castillo was scheduled to be tried on the charge starting this coming Tuesday, but court records show he has filed a written plea of guilty to the lesser charge of assault with the intent to commit sexual abuse, an aggravated misdemeanor.

As part of the plea deal, prosecutors are recommending a two year prison sentence and any restitution requested by the victim. Castillo is scheduled to be sentenced on August 21st in Franklin County District Court.
