86% of corn, 82% of soybeans good to excellent according to latest Iowa crop report

DES MOINES — Corn and soybean conditions continue to be good across the state of Iowa despite varying weather conditions.

State climatologist Justin Glisan says while parts of eastern Iowa saw above normal rainfall during this past week, it was the first week since mid-June in which statewide precipitation was below normal.

The latest USDA Iowa Crop Report shows nearly all of Iowa’s corn has reached the silking stage. Corn in the dough stage reached 78%, one day behind last year’s pace and three days behind normal. Corn in the dent stage reached 27%, one day ahead of last year, but one day behind the five-year average. Here in the north-central crop reporting district, 82% of corn was in the dough stage, 29% had dented.

Corn condition statewide was 1% very poor, 2% poor, 11% fair, 56% good and 30% excellent. Soybeans blooming reached 96%. 83% were setting pods, one day ahead of last year’s pace but four days behind normal. Here in north-central Iowa, 94% were blooming and 74% had set pods. Soybean condition statewide was 1% very poor, 2% poor, 15% fair, 60% good and 22% excellent.
