Cerro Gordo supervisors approve policy on video streaming meetings

MASON CITY — The Cerro Gordo County Board of Supervisors has approved a formal policy on video streaming meetings in the future.

The county has been experimenting over the last five months with equipment to live stream and record the meetings to be archived on their website. The policy approved Monday states that all public meetings of the Supervisors, including regular sessions, special sessions, board staff discussion sessions, and drainage district meetings will be live streamed.

When he ran last year for the Third District Supervisor position, Carl Ginapp made it one of the big points of his campaign that he wanted to make things more transparent for the public, including having video available of the meetings. Ginapp says the policy allows anyone to log into a Google Teams meeting to watch the meetings live, and also allows people who have items on the agenda participate remotely.  “One of the parts of this states that only Board of Supervisor members or their invited participants shall be allowed to participate in the meeting virtually. If there was a member of the public that had a relevant item to discuss and wanted to, they just have to get a hold of the Board of Supervisors first and get yourself placed on the approved list as an invited participant.”

Archived video of meetings will be posted on the Board of Supervisors’ website within 48 hours of the conclusion of the meeting.
