Men charged with May robbery in Mason City sentenced to jail time on lesser charges

MASON CITY — Both men who were charged with a robbery in Mason City in May have been sentenced to jail time.
A criminal complaint states that shortly after 6 o’clock on the evening of May 26th, 35-year-old Harold Stinnett and 31-year-old Jacob Mills allegedly assaulted and took money from a victim in the 200 block of 5th Northeast. The assault resulted in serious injuries to the victim, which consisted of multiple lacerations to the victim’s head and face.
Both men were charged with first-degree robbery, a Class B felony punishable by up to 25 years in prison. Both had filed not guilty pleas to the charge, but both earlier this month entered into plea agreements, pleading guilty to the lesser charge of assault causing bodily injury, a serious misdemeanor.
Mills earlier this month was sentenced to 60 days in jail with credit for time already served and that he pay restitution to the victim.
Stinnett on Monday was sentenced to 30 days in jail with credit for time served and that he also pay restitution.
