Mason City’s city administrator says final steps being taken for closing, working toward ground breaking for downtown hotel

MASON CITY — Mason City’s city administrator says the final steps are being taken for closing and working toward a ground breaking for the hotel portion of the River City Renaissance Project.

City Administrator Aaron Burnett told the council at their meeting last week that progress continues with finalizing the closing.  “This was a good week so far. We’ve been able to eliminate a lot of the items on the closing list, so we believe we’ll be able to get to closing next week on the property, and a ribbon cutting will be soon thereafter. We’re already working on setting that date with Kinseth Hospitality and we should see activity on that site soon after that.”

Burnett says he’s glad they’ve been able to move the project closer to becoming a reality.  “Work has progressed really well. It’s obviously been a long point to this point, but glad to know that we’re getting the final items checked off the closing list so that we can get to closing and a ribbon cutting.”

The City Council back in early July approved a development agreement with ES 2024 Mason City Hotel Associates, a limited liability corporation connected to Kinseth Hospitality Corporation, after the city last August executed a purchase agreement that outlined the process of constructing a $15 million extended stay hotel connected to Music Man Square.
