Sentencing date set for Mason City woman who pleaded guilty to cocaine selling charge

MASON CITY — The sentencing date has been scheduled for a Mason City woman accused of selling cocaine earlier this year.

28-year-old Shelby Veal was charged in May with two counts of intent to deliver cocaine under 100 grams, each a Class C felony. Criminal complaints stated that Veal sold cocaine on two different occasions to a confidential informant working under the direction and control of the Clear Lake Police Department.

Veal was scheduled to have her trial start on Tuesday, but earlier this month she filed a written plea of guilty to one count of intent to deliver cocaine. According to a plea agreement filed in Cerro Gordo County District Court, prosecutors will recommend a suspended ten year prison sentence and three years probation.

Veal’s sentencing hearing is scheduled for October 20th.
