Water main flushing in Clear Lake starts September 15th

CLEAR LAKE — The Clear Lake Water Department will start its routine flushing of water mains on Monday September 15th.

The city says flushing will take place throughout the community between 7:30 AM and 4:30 PM during that week. Water main flushing is conducted twice a year, typically in the spring and fall, as part of the city’s efforts to maintain a safe and reliable water distribution system. The process helps remove iron and mineral deposits, clears air pockets, maintains proper chlorine and fluoride levels, and allows crews to inspect hydrants to ensure they are operating properly for fire protection.

During the times the mains are being flushed, residents can expect temporary low water pressure, discolored or rusty water that is not a health risk, or cloudy water or water with a chlorine odor caused by trapped air bubbles or natural chlorine release during the process.

If a resident experiences continued low water pressure or other issues after hydrant flushing has concluded and after running your cold water tap, you are asked to contact the Clear Lake Water Department at 641-357-5267.
