More information released about shooting in northeastern Mason City on Sunday

MASON CITY — The Mason City Police Department has provided an update on a shooting in northeastern Mason City on Sunday.

The department says shortly before noon, they were called to the 700 block of North Delaware for a report of a large fight and a shooting, and on arrival, they found several people in the area. A male, 19-year-old DaShawn Maxwell of Mason City, was transported by private vehicle to the MercyOne North Iowa Medical Center emergency room, for treatment of a single gunshot wound that was not life-threatening.

The department says they completed a neighborhood canvass and collected evidence at the scene of the shooting. They say the follow-up investigation is ongoing, but it’s hampered by a lack of cooperation from parties who were present at the time of the call.
