Savior on September 1, 2025.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, September 15, 2025, at Zion Lutheran
Church, 112 North 4th Street, Clear Lake, with lay minister, Al Berge, officiating.

A visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m.- 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 14, 2025, at Ward Van
Slyke Colonial Chapel, 310 1st Avenue North, Clear Lake, Iowa, 50428.

Jerry was born on July 28, 1935, in Mason City, Iowa, to Robert and Elizabeth (Green) Meier.  Jerry
grew up on the family farm near Hayfield, Iowa.  Jerry attended and graduated from the school in
Hayfield.

Jerry earned a Bachelor’s Degree in education at Iowa State University and a Master’s Degree in
counseling from the University of Northern Iowa.  Jerry began his teaching career in Lake City,
Iowa, teaching industrial arts.  Jerry also began his 50+ years working as a school bus driver while in
Lake City.  Jerry proudly served in the Iowa National Guard at this time, as well.  Jerry met fellow
teacher, Elise Agena, while in Lake City.  Jerry and Elise were married on June 5, 1960, at the First
Lutheran Church in Dows, Iowa.  They were blessed with two daughters, Cathy and Cindy.

The Meier family moved to Clear Lake in 1967, where Jerry was a high school guidance counselor
and school bus driver.  Jerry also worked part-time with his dad in their family plumbing and heating
business in Britt, Iowa.  After inheriting the family business and retiring from Clear Lake schools,
Jerry continued working in plumbing and heating until he retired at the age of 87.

Faith was central to Jerry’s life.  Jerry was a longtime member of Zion Lutheran Church, where he
served in many roles including Sunday school superintendent, bus driver transporting One Vision
(formerly Opportunity Village) residents to church, and involvement with the youth singing group
BASICS.  Jerry found joy in helping others, and was known for his kind and gentle spirit.

In his free time, Jerry enjoyed fishing, camping, growing popcorn in his garden, and spending time
with his family, friends, and his cat, Muffy.

Jerry is survived by his wife, Elise Meier; daughters, Cathy (Jim) McDougle and Cindy Meier;
grandson, Dmitry McDougle; brothers-in-law, Ubbo (Mildred) Agena and Maynard (Jeanie) Agena;
and sister-in-law, Marguerite (Max) Horn.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Meier and Elizabeth Meier Groh; stepfather, Fred
Groh; and brother-in-law, Ben Agena.

Memorials may be directed to Samaritan’s Purse or to Zion Lutheran Church.
