Mason City firefighters raise over $18,000 for MDA

MASON CITY — The Mason City Professional Fire Fighters Association says they were able to raise over $18,000 this past weekend for the Muscular Dystrophy Association through their “Fill the Boot” campaign.
The members of the Mason City Professional Firefighters Local 41 took to the streets for four days to continue a long tradition of raising funds to support the MDA’s mission to accelerate research, advance care, and advocate for the support of families living with muscular dystrophy, ALS, and related neuromuscular diseases.
The final total was $18,252.86, which was just under $4191 higher than last year’s fundraising total. Since 2008, $184,000 has been donated locally through the Fill the Boot campaign.
Funds raised through the Fill the Boot campaign events go towards groundbreaking research, life-enhancing educational programs, a resource center, and support for multi-disciplinary medical teams at the MDA Care Center at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.
