Filing deadline one week away for city, school board elections

MASON CITY — With a week to go before the filing deadline, candidates have been turning in their nomination papers for the city and school board elections in November.
== In the City of Mason City: councilman John Lee has filed his nomination papers for mayor. Kimber Kleven has announced she intends to run for the position, but according to the Cerro Gordo County Auditor’s office she has not filed yet for the position. All three incumbents on the city council have filed their nomination papers with at-large councilman Tim Latham, Second Ward councilman Will Symonds, and Fourth Ward councilman John Jaszewski. Jaszewski will have a contested race though, as Rugby Sliger has also filed for the position. There are three Park Board positions up for election this year, with incumbent Anne Hanson having filed her nomination papers.
== In Clear Lake, only incumbent Bennett Smith has filed nomination papers for his Second Ward seat. Former councilman Tony Nelson has announced he’s running for the at-large council seat currently held by Dana Brant, but has not filed as of yet. Current councilman Mark Ebeling has announced but not filed for the mayor’s position.
== Three seats on the Mason City Community School District School Board are up for election this year, with those seats currently being held by Carol Dettmer, Cindy Garza, and Alan Steckman. Mason City School Board secretary Amy Graven tells Northiowanow.com News that as of this morning, no candidates had filed for the November election.
== Two seats on the Clear Lake Community School District School Board are on this year’s ballot, with incumbents Chyrl Bergvig and Greg Southgate having filed their nomination papers.
The deadline for candidates to file for the November 4th election is 5:00 PM next Thursday, September 18th. City candidates must file their nomination papers with the County Auditor’s office, while school board candidates must file their paperwork in the office of the School Board Secretary.
