High school football preview for September 12 — Clear Lake hosts Webster City, Mason City on the road to Marshalltown, area schedule

CLEAR LAKE — #3/3A Clear Lake hosts North Central Conference rival Webster City in a non-district football game tonight. The Lions are 2-0 on the season after beating Humboldt 23-7 last Friday night.

Clear Lake coach Aaron Stensland says his defense will be prepared for Webster City’s unique single-wing offense. “We have a definite certain way the last three years we’ve prepped for it, and we have a little system, there’s no big secrets to it, it’s just something that we believe in and how we do it and how we use our kids, and they’ve bought into it, and it’s really worked. The rain game (in 2023) to hold them to 2, that was on a snap over the punter’s head, and then last year we gave up stuff on some reverses but felt like we were in control defensively there too. We’re hoping to use a similar game plan there and get kids in the right spots. There will be some different kids on the field Friday based on their personnel so, they’re going to have to step up and play well.”

MARSHALLTOWN — Mason City travels to Marshalltown in a non-district Class 4A football game. Mason City is 0-2 after falling to Fort Dodge and Gilbert to start the season. Marshalltown comes in at 2-0 after wins over Ames and Waterloo East. Jameer Falls has been Mason City’s leader, passing for 205 yards and running for 131 yards and two touchdowns this season.
