Three Mason City projects, one Charles City project awarded workforce housing tax credits

MASON CITY — Projects in Mason City and Charles City are among 63 projects that have been awarded almost $36 million in workforce housing tax credits to support development in 36 counties across the state from the Iowa Economic Development Authority. The awards will fund the projects that are expected to create nearly 2000 new residential units, 1217 in large communities and 752 in smaller towns.

IEDA received 137 applications requesting about $83 million in tax credits. Of the $35 million available for Fiscal Year 2026, $17.5 million was specifically reserved for projects in Iowa’s 88 least-populated counties. 

 

== Three projects in Mason City are receiving awards: The Kirk MC LLC was awarded $629,804 in tax credit to create 19 units on the old Kirk Apartments property downtown; Next Level Development LLC was awarded $396,300 in credit for creating 12 units in an apartment complex in the Briarstone West area; and LPE Development LLC was awarded $224,100 in credits for six townhome units in the Briarstone West area

 

== The project in Floyd County is a 74-unit rental townhome community in Charles City on land donated by the city and the Charles City Area Development Corporation. The site is within a half mile of major employers including Cambrex, Floyd County Medical Center, and Zoetis.
