Dean Curtis Heimdal, 97, of Clear Lake, passed away Tuesday, September 16, 2025, at Apple Valley Assisted
Living.
A celebration of life memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, September 19 th , 2025, at Ward Van
Slyke Colonial Chapel, 310 First Ave North, Clear Lake, Iowa; with Pastor Will Hunsaker officiating.
Following the service the family will host a reception with a visitation greeting family and friends until 2:00
p.m.
Military honors will be conducted by the members of the Clear Lake VFW Post 4868. An inurnment will be
taking place at a later date in the Clear Lake Cemetery. Memorials may be directed in care of the family
Dean Curtis Heimdal was born July 16, 1928, near Joice, Iowa, in rural Worth County, the son of Orin and
Marie Heimdal. He received his education in Joice, graduating from Joice High School in 1946. Following
graduation, he worked at Decker Meat Packing Plant in Mason City until 1950.
Dean proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict, receiving an
honorable discharge. From 1955 to 1961, he farmed the family farm in Pilot Grove, Minnesota.
Dean’s life was richly blessed when he met Gloria Lewerke at a breakfast Bible study. Their friendship grew
into love, and on May 4, 1991, they were united in marriage. Together they shared many wonderful years,
enjoying camping, traveling, and working on word puzzles.
Dean spent much of his career as a home, auto, and city insurance adjuster until his retirement. A man of
many talents, he loved painting landscapes, mountain, and lake scenes, earning several awards and even a
purple ribbon at a local fair. He was also musically gifted, often playing the piano for family and friends. Dean
enjoyed fishing finding peace being on the water.
Faith was central to Dean’s life. He attended both the Evangelical Free Church and Open Bible Church, and
he also enjoyed fellowship and personal growth as a member of Toastmasters.
Dean is survived by his wife, Gloria Heimdal; children, Ken (Pam) Heimdal, Cynthia (Dave) Brown, JoAnn
(Tom) Maulsby, Julie (Greg) Meier; daughter-in-law, Kari Heimdal; step-children, Ron (Betsy) Lewerke, Tim
(Nan) Lewerke, Bob (Terri) Lewerke; 13 Grandchildren, several Great-Grandchildren and Step-
Grandchildren, Step-Great-Grandchildren; brother, Lowell (Evelyn) Heimdal, and sister-in-law Marge
Heimdal along with nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Dean is preceded in death by his parents Orin and Marie Heimdal, grandson, Nate Heimdal, son, Todd
Heimdal, brothers, Vernon and Royden Heimdal.
