Plea change hearing set for Mason City woman accused of taking money while working at local credit union

MASON CITY — A plea change hearing has been scheduled for a Mason City woman charged with taking almost $43,000 from a local credit union.

A criminal complaint states that Mason City police started an investigation in March after CENT Credit Union reported that during an internal audit of escrow accounts, it was discovered that there were several cashiers’ checks cut from multiple escrow accounts for personal use by one of their employees, 45-year-old Casey Servantez. Further investigation showed that between May 2023 and January of this year, Servantez had cut checks totaling about $42,957.

Servantez was charged with first-degree theft, a Class C felony punishable by up to ten years in prison.

Servantez had pleaded not guilty to the charge and was scheduled to be tried on September 30th, but court records show a plea change hearing has now been scheduled for October 6th in Cerro Gordo County District Court.
