Progress continues on highway projects in Mason City

MASON CITY — Some signs of progress are scheduled to take place in the next week on two major highway projects in Mason City.
Pete Hjelmstad of the Iowa Department of Transportation says the decent weather through the construction season has helped keep both the US Highway 65 and State Highway 122 projects for the most part on schedule. “We’re hoping by late next week, Highway 65 will be open down to 12th Street, so that’s again, more progress. Highway 122, you should hopefully see pavement going down from Monroe to Crescent Drive on Thursday. Again, this is all weather permitting, I know we have chances of rain throughout the week, but we’ll hope we can get that in.”
Hjelmstad says while these projects are taking a while to get done due to things like underground utility work being completed, they are still for the most part on time. “It’s September, so you start looking ahead, but a lot of these projects still have several weeks left in them, but the good news is that we’re sitting pretty good.”
Both projects are scheduled for a November completion date. You can track road construction projects online at 511ia.org or through the Iowa 511 app.
