Former congressman Blum announces bid to return to US House in Second District

DUBUQUE — Former Republican Congressman Rod Blum of Dubuque is entering the race for the US House seat that includes northeastern Iowa and a portion of our listening area.

Blum served two terms in the House, including the first two years of President Trump’s first term. In a written statement, Blum says he’s ready to serve Iowans in the House once again, as his priorities will include keeping the border secure, ensure criminal illegal immigrants are deported, strengthening the US economy through fair trade deals, and making cities safe for families.

Blum owns a software company called Digital Canal and has announced he’s using $250,000 of his own money to kickstart his campaign. Blum was first elected to the US House in 2014 and won re-election in 2016. He lost his 2018 bid for another term to Democrat Abby Finkenauer.

Two other Republicans and three Democrats have announced they are running for the Second District seat currently held by Republican Ashley Hinson, who has announced she’s running for the US Senate.

The Second District includes Cerro Gordo, Worth, Mitchell, Floyd and Butler counties in our immediate listening area.
