The family would like to acknowledge the staff of Good Shepherd and St. Croix Hospice for their
outstanding service. Your care and compassion were greatly appreciated.

Sylvia was born August 28, 1939, in Mason City, the daughter of Ignatius and Ruth (Veech)
Jarosh. Growing up in the area, she graduated from St. Joseph Catholic School in 1958 and
later continued her education at LaJames College. She was blessed with two sons, William “Bill”
and Joseph “Joe,” and the family made their home in Mason City. One evening at bowling
league Sylvia was introduced to Thomas Colman, and on May 25, 1968, they were married in
Mason City. Together they raised Bill and Joe, following their military careers around the
country. Sylvia worked in housekeeping at Heritage Care Center, serving as supervisor for many
years.

Sylvia’s life was full of creativity, warmth, and quiet joys. A talented chalk and charcoal artist,
she had a gift for detail and expression that mirrored her easygoing but meticulous nature. Her
love of the outdoors showed in her flourishing flower gardens and in the way she delighted in
birdwatching and spotting deer just outside her window. She found joy in her kitchen, where
cooking became her love language—especially when shared with family. Music was always part
of her days, whether she was listening to Elvis or playing tunes herself, and she cherished the
trips she and Tom took together, especially when they involved cheering on their sons and
grandchildren. Known for clipping out newspaper articles and tucking them away, Sylvia built a
treasure trove of memories that reflected how deeply she cared for the stories of others. She
was proud to see her family dedicate their lives to service—whether in the military, law
enforcement, transportation industry, or beyond—and she carried that pride in her heart always.
Animals also had a special place in her life, from the beloved cats and dogs that shared her
home to the joy she took in watching the Westminster Dog Show each year.

Sylvia is survived by her son, Joe (Christina “Chris”) Colman of Thornton; grandchildren, William
“Bill” (Tricia) Colman Jr., Kyle (Christina) Colman, Joshua (Amy) Johnson, Jolisa (Gary)
Ronzheimer, and Bradley (Beverly) Colman; many beloved great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law,
Diane Jarosh; cherished cousin, Rosemary Veech; Thomas’ sister, Ruby Wineman and his
siblings’ families; as well as numerous extended family members and friends.

Preceding Sylvia in death are her husband, Tom Colman; son, Bill Colman Sr.; parents;
brothers, Charles and Carl Jarosh; and Thomas’ siblings, Pete, Clifford, William, Robert and
Delbert Colman and Betty Walkner.
