Mason City man pleads not guilty to burglary

MASON CITY — A Mason City man has pleaded not guilty to burglary.
A criminal complaint accuses 26-year-old Dwayne Heard of forcing open a locked door of a home in the 600 block of 3rd Northeast on the morning of August 25th. The complaint says Heard has a no-contact order with the resident of the home, and while inside, Heard allegedly made contact with the resident. Heard is also accused of grabbing a knife from the kitchen and stabbing a bed before leaving.
Heard was arrested and charged with second-degree burglary, a Class C felony punishable by up to ten years in prison.
He entered a not guilty plea to the charge in Cerro Gordo County District Court earlier today, with his trial being scheduled for November 4th.
Heard continues to be held in the Cerro Gordo County Jail on $10,300 cash-only bond.
