NIACC weekend roundup — Men’s Golf wins Buena Vista Fall Invitational; Volleyball drops pair at Border Bash

STORM LAKE — The NIACC men’s golf team won the Buena Vista University Fall Invitational tournament on Sunday by a single stroke over the host school. NIACC won the nine-team invitational with a two-day total of 604. Buena Vista was second with a 605, with Iowa Lakes being third with a 606. NIACC was led by freshman Heath Voigt and sophomore Garrett Ham, who tied for sixth in the individual medalist competition with each shooting a 149. Also for the Trojans, Ashtin Willms shot a 152, Eli Anderson a 154 and Hudson Kroyman a 165.
The NIACC women placed seventh in the women’s tournament with a two-day total of 724. Simpson won the team title with a two-day total of 666, while host Buena Vista was second with a 668. NIACC was led by freshman Avery Knutsen who had a 172. Next up for both NIACC golf teams is a trip to the Waldorf Fall Invitational this coming Sunday at the Wedgewood Golf Course in Albert Lea.
MASON CITY — The NIACC volleyball team dropped both of their matches at the first Border Bash at the NIACC gym on Saturday. NIACC dropped a three sets to two decision to Rochester Technical and Community College, with the Yellow Jackets winning 17-25, 21-25, 25-21, 25-19, 15-11. The Trojans then fell to Minnesota West Community and Technical College, being swept 25-18, 25-16, 25-20. In Saturday’s other matches, Minnesota West beat Ellsworth 3-2 and Ellsworth beat Rochester 3-0. NIACC is 9-9 overall and will host Iowa Central in an Iowa Community College Athletic Conference contest on Wednesday night.
