After deadly ICE facility shooting in Dallas, Hinson calls for passage of bill doubling criminal penalties for assaulting ICE officers

WASHINGTON — North-central Iowa congresswoman Ashley Hinson is condemning Wednesday morning’s deadly shooting at an Immigration and Customs Enforcement facility in Texas.

Hinson has co-sponsored a bill that would double criminal penalties for assaulting, resisting, or impeding an ICE officer or employee. “We know ICE agents are real people. They are on the front lines of protecting our country. We know assaults on them are up between 700% and 1000% as we continue to see media smearing them, the misinformation, the left’s calls to strip them of their protective gear. That’s why I introduced a bill to double the federal penalty for attacks on ICE agents and I’m working to send it to President Trump’s desk as soon as possible.”

California Governor Gavin Newsom signed a bill into law this past weekend that bans ICE agents from wearing masks during raids in that state. A gunman used a rifle to kill one detainee and wound two others in a transport van before taking his own life. The agency says it’s investigating the shooting as “an act of targeted violence”.
