11% of corn, 14% of soybeans harvested according to this week’s crop report
DES MOINES — Warm and dry weather has meant combines have been rolling across Iowa over the last week.
The dry conditions allowed for 6.2 days suitable for fieldwork during the week ending September 28th, according to the Iowa Crop Report released by the USDA on Monday afternoon.
Nearly all the corn statewide was dented or beyond. 80% of corn has matured, four days ahead of last year and one day ahead of the five-year average. 15% of the corn harvest has been completed, four days ahead of last year and three days ahead of average.
Here in the north-central crop reporting district, 76% of corn was mature and 11% has been harvested.
Moisture content of field corn being harvested for grain was 20%. Corn condition was rated 1% very poor, 5% poor, 23% fair, 53% good, and 18% excellent.
Soybeans coloring was nearly complete at 95%. 83% of soybeans were dropping leaves, three days ahead of last year and two days ahead of average. Soybean harvest statewide was 17% complete.
Here in north-central Iowa, 100% of soybeans were coloring, 92% were dropping leaves, and 14% had been harvested.
Soybean condition was rated 1% very poor, 4% poor, 22% fair, 55% good and 18% excellent.
