Humboldt farmer drops out of 4th District US House race
HUMBOLDT — The Republican race in Iowa’s Fourth Congressional District has narrowed as one candidate has suspended his campaign.
Humboldt farmer Kyle Larsen says over the last few months it’s become clear that mounting a campaign for congress requires far more funds and time away from family than he can spare. Larsen is now endorsing Chris McGowan, the president of the Sioux City metro’s chamber of commerce and a Plymouth County farmer.
Larsen says he and McGowan share the same values on family and the same passion for growing the manufacturing economy, the ag economy, and Main Street businesses.
Current Fourth District congressman Randy Feenstra of Hull is not seeking reelection and is expected to formally kick off his campaign for governor in the near future.
Three other Republicans have declared their candidacy for the US House seat with former House Republican Leader Matt Windschitl of Missouri Valley, Iowa Tea Party founder Ryan Rhodes of Ames, and Christian Schlaefer of Lakota who is a software engineer.
Three Democrats have announced campaigns for the seat with former state legislator Dave Dawson of Lawton, stay-at-home mom Ashley WolfTornabane of Storm Lake, and traveling nurse Stephanie Steiner of Sutherland.
The Fourth District includes Winnebago, Hancock, Wright and Franklin counties in our immediate listening area.
