Mason City High School graduate to be Charles City’s next city administrator

CHARLES CITY — A Mason City High School graduate has been named as Charles City’s next city administrator.
Tyler Trout recently served as the city administrator in Avoca in western Iowa. Trout graduated from Mason City High School in 2014, and his dad, Brent Trout, was the city administrator for the City of Mason City from 2007 to 2017.
Trout earned his Bachelor’s degree in Public Service and Public Policy from Arizona State University and is currently pursuing his Master’s of Public Administration at Drake University.
He’s been the city administrator in Avoca since July 2023, leading initiatives including the development of a comprehensive 30-year capital improvement plan and the introduction of cutting-edge acoustic camera technology to enforce traffic noise ordinances.
Trout’s appointment comes after Steve Diers left earlier this year to take the city administrator position in Clear Lake. Trout will officially begin his duties in Charles City on December 1st.
