All four suspects plead not guilty to stealing copper wire from Goodell egg production facility

GOODELL — All four suspects charged with breaking into a Goodell egg production facility and stealing copper wire from inside and outside the building have pleaded not guilty.

43-year-old Dustin DeVries of Grafton, 46-year-old Bret Freiberg of Charles City, 39-year-old Kory Peterson of Charles City and 28-year-old Madison Clay of Cresco were all charged in August after multiple break-ins between January and April to the Sparboe facility, stealing copper wire and other goods at a value of over $10,000.

All four have been charged with: ongoing criminal conduct, a Class B felony punishable by up to 25 years in prison; as well as first-degree criminal mischief and first-degree theft, each Class C felonies. Freiberg, Peterson, and DeVries are facing three additional charges of third-degree burglary while Clay has been charged with one additional charge of third-degree burglary.

Freiberg and DeVries recently pleaded not guilty to the charges, with Freiberg’s trial scheduled to start on October 29th, with DeVries’ trial scheduled for a December 10th start.

Peterson and Clay had their arraignment hearings scheduled for this week and filed written pleas of not guilty. Their separate trials are also scheduled to start on December 10th.
