Clear Lake council to hear about another option for Oaks Hotel project and 7th Avenue North

CLEAR LAKE — The Clear Lake City Council will once again discuss the Surf District area at their meeting tonight, but they will not be taking a vote on whether or not to close 7th Avenue North as is proposed with the Oaks Hotel project.

The council two weeks ago held a workshop session where options about the hotel construction were discussed, and the results of a traffic study were released if 7th Avenue North was removed between North Shore Drive and Buddy Holly Place, creating a plaza between the hotel and the Surf Ballroom Music Experience Center.

City Administrator Steve Diers in a memo to the council says since that workshop, a design of what is now being called “Option 4” began to take shape that attempts to take the positive attributes of the previous options and meld those into one design.

City Engineer Matt Steding will review that option with the council tonight, but Diers says due to the addition of the new option, an action item to select a preferred option was not included on tonight’s agenda. He says the council would look to take action at their October 20th meeting which would choose an option that would then move on to the city’s Planning & Zoning Commission for their review and ultimate recommendation back to the council.

The council meets tonight at 5:30 at Clear Lake City Hall.
