NIACC weekend roundup — volleyball splits at Rock Valley Tournament, both soccer teams fall to Iowa Central

ROCKFORD, ILLINOIS — The NIACC volleyball team split a pair of matches at the Rock Valley Tournament on Saturday in Rockford, Illinois. NIACC swept Harper College 25-22, 25-20, 25-14, while host Rock Valley College swept the Trojans 25-21, 25-17, 25-23. Sophomore Megan Tobin led the Trojans with 22 kills, six digs and five blocks. Freshman Jocelynn Coleman had 18 kills, three digs and three blocks and sophomore Hannah Brinkman had 14 kills, eight digs, eight blocks and two ace serves. NIACC is now 11-12 overall and will host Iowa Lakes in a conference match on Wednesday night at the campus gym.
MASON CITY — Both NIACC soccer teams dropped 1-0 decisions on Saturday afternoon to Iowa Central. In the men’s contest, the 17th-ranked Tritons scored the lone goal of the match in the 41st minute on an unassisted goal. NIACC had four shots on goal. In the women’s match, Iowa Central scored in the 77th minute for the lone goal, as NIACC had 10 shots on goal. The NIACC men drop to 6-3-3 overall and 1-2-2 in the conference, while the women fall to 4-4-3 overall and 2-2-1 in conference play. Both NIACC teams return to action this coming Saturday as they’ll travel to Waterloo to face Hawkeye Community College.
