Mason City woman pleads guilty to taking money from local credit union
MASON CITY — A Mason City woman charged with taking almost $43,000 from a local credit union has pleaded guilty.
A criminal complaint states that Mason City police started an investigation in March after CENT Credit Union reported that during an internal audit of escrow accounts, it was discovered that there were several cashiers’ checks cut from multiple escrow accounts for personal use by one of their employees, 45-year-old Casey Servantez. Further investigation showed that between May 2023 and January of this year, Servantez had cut checks totaling about $42,957.
Servantez was charged with first-degree theft, a Class C felony punishable by up to ten years in prison.
Servantez as part of a plea agreement pleaded guilty to the first-degree theft charge on Monday. In exchange for the guilty plea, prosecutors will recommend a deferred judgment and five years probation.
Servantez is scheduled to be sentenced on December 15th in Cerro Gordo County District Court.
