Large item dropoff this week in Clear Lake

CLEAR LAKE — The City of Clear Lake’s large-item dropoff program runs Thursday through Saturday.

The city last year moved from a method of a semi-annual large-item curbside pickup program due to several flaws, including illegal dumping and safety concerns for city employees. Residents for three days will be able to bring large items to the Clear Lake Public Works yard waste site at 1419 2nd Avenue South for free.

Public Works director Jeremy Korenberg reminds motorists to come into the facility on 2nd Avenue South.   “Entrance is on 2nd Avenue, exit onto 4th Avenue. Yard waste will remain open during those hours as well. We will close our yard waste after hours so we’re not having illegally dropped off stuff or confusing items. We would ask that the yard waste individuals also follow the same traffic just for safety issues.”

Korenberg says he’s heard positive feedback to moving to this format for getting rid of large items.  “It’s been absolutely amazing. I think the guys love it. All the feedback from people coming there has been great.”

The dropoff is only open to Clear Lake residents. For those dropping off appliances and TVs, the first two appliances and first two TVs are free, but any additional appliances or TVs will need a special sticker that can be purchased at City Hall.

The large-item dropoff hours are Thursday from 8:00-to-6:00, Friday from 8:00-to-5:00 and Saturday from 8:00-to-1:00.
