Mason City’s mayor excited for hotel groundbreaking next week
MASON CITY — The groundbreaking takes place next week for the hotel portion of the River City Renaissance project. The 88-room Home2 Suites by Hilton extended stay hotel will be part of the new Riverwalk District and connect Music Man Square via the already constructed skywalk.
Mason City mayor Bill Schickel says he’s excited for the future with preliminary construction already underway. “I think we’re positioned very, very well for the future. This is the third and final phase of the River City Renaissance, but we’re just getting started. You look at our thriving downtown, you look at the 200 new housing units, you look at our reputation now as the outdoor capital for outdoor recreation in the Midwest.”
Schickel says the city will continue to build off of the momentum of the rejuvenation of the downtown area. “Our rejuvenated downtown just puts us in a wonderful position. We’ve got some things to do for sure, but really now for me is a time of both gratefulness and celebration.”
The groundbreaking takes place next Thursday at 11:30 AM at the site in the eastern portion of the Southbridge Mall parking lot.
Schickel made his comments during the “Ask the Mayor” podcast which was recorded earlier today in the skywalk bridging Music Man Square and the hotel construction site. You can listen to that podcast by clicking here
