Mason City Fire Department open house as part of Fire Prevention Week on Sunday

MASON CITY — The Mason City FIre Department will be holding an open house on Sunday as Fire Prevention Week wraps up.

Derek Smit of the Fire Department says the open house is a family-style event.  “We have door prizes. It’s a great event for the community, especially younger kids, they always end up having a blast. We’ll have a bunch of different demonstrations going on. We’ll be talking about fire safety and just having a good time with the public.”

The department’s Keenan Feldpausch says it’s a good chance to learn more about the Fire Department.  “It’s just a good opportunity for the public to meet your firefighters, the people here at Mason City Fire Department. It’s also a good opportunity for adults to learn new stuff, it’s always good to continue learning and pass it along to your children, good habits, especially when it comes to fire safety.”

The open house takes place on Sunday at the Mason City Fire Department at 350 5th Street Southwest from 12:30-3:00.

The Fire Department will also have its grand reopening ceremony on Monday at 10:00 AM, which will mark the completion of a major renovation and addition project that has modernized and expanded the department’s facilities.
