Toros, Bulls split weekend series

MASON CITY — The North Iowa Bulls split a weekend home-and-home series with the Austin Bruins. On Friday night in Mason City, the Bruins scored four times in the third for a 6-2 victory. Bobby Thornton and Drake Maresca had the goals for North Iowa. The Bulls took Saturday night’s game in Austin 4-3 as Maresca and Michael Malatino both had two goals. North Iowa is 5-3-0-1 on the season and will host Aberdeen this weekend.
MASON CITY — The Mason City Toros split their weekend series at home with West Bend. On Saturday night, Kellen Kantaris scored in the seventh round of the shootout to give the Toros a 4-3 win. Kantaris added a goal in regulation along with Stone Resch and Christian Plaga. West Bend scored twice in the second and twice in the third for a 4-1 win on Sunday afternoon. T. J. Gibson scored the only goal for the Toros. Mason City is 5-3-2-0 on the season and will travel north this weekend to face the Minnesota Wilderness.
