High school roundup from Tuesday October 14 — Clear Lake boys win NCC cross country title, volleyball results

ALGONA — The Clear Lake boys won the North Central Conference cross country title on Tuesday, while a Clear Lake junior won the girls race held in Algona.

The Lions boys had 41 points to win the team title as they had three runners finish in the top nine. Algona was second with 55, followed by Webster City with 93. Gavin Weber of Algona won the boys race in a time of 16:02. Gavin Roske had Clear Lake’s best finish, placing fourth in a time of 17:33, with teammate John Amos placing fifth in a time of 17:42.

Clear Lake’s Saylor Schmitt won the girls race in a time of 19:40, edging runner-up Avery Fisher of Humboldt by three seconds. Humboldt had three of their runners finish second, third and fourth, and another ninth to win the girls team title with 43 points. Clear Lake was the runner-up with 50 points, followed by St. Edmond with 82.
