Hinson says shutdown hurting constituents in her district

WASHINGTON — North-central Iowa congresswoman Ashley Hinson says the government shutdown continues to hurt everyday Americans.

She says there are reports this week that those who serve our country are not getting paid.  “The Gazette reported that some Iowa guardsmen aren’t getting paychecks this week, so I’m here to say enough is enough. While Democrats chose to shut down the government over healthcare for illegal immigrants, my office is open. It has remained open and it is ready to serve people.”

During a conference call with Iowa reporters this morning, Hinson shared a story about a constituent who came to her staff after they received a notice that they needed to repay tens of thousands of dollars after a Social Security overpayment. She says progress on getting things resolved hit a road block with the shutdown.   “My team was actually working with SSA on behalf of this constituent, but due to the shutdown, they are no longer able to communicate with my team. A shutdown freezes progress on stories like this. It leaves constituents with many questions and concerns unanswered. She wants to know is she going to have to pay interest on this money, what’s the next step, and that again is going unanswered.”

Hinson’s second district includes Cerro Gordo, Worth, Mitchell, Floyd and Butler counties in our immediate listening area.
