Week 8 High School Football preview

CLEAR LAKE — The top-ranked Clear Lake Lions travel to Charles City to face the Comets in Class 3A District 2 football play tonight. The Lions defense through seven games have pitched three shutouts and have held five of those seven teams under 150 total yards in games.

Clear Lake coach Aaron Stensland says he’s proud of his stingy defense. “I think that’s the big thing, we have a front four that’s fresh that plays defense only now for the most part. We’ve got veteran linebackers and a fantasic secondary that’s flying to the ball. It just doesn’t leave a lot of open space, open air out there for offenses to find room to operate.”

The Lions face a Charles City team that is 3-4 overall and 0-3 in district play, having lost their last two games 37-21 to Iowa Falls-Alden and 55-0 to West Delaware. CEDAR RAPIDS — Mason City travels to Cedar Rapids tonight to face Cedar Rapids Washington in Class 4A District 2 play. The Riverhawks will try to bounce back from a 58-13 loss to 8th-ranked Decorah last week as they face a Warriors squad that is 2-5 overall and is searching for their first district win.
